Approximately 14 years ago today, on Halloween, Satoshi Nakamoto introduced Bitcoin to the world by sharing the renowned white paper. Satoshi’s invention, shared on metzdowd.com’s Cryptography Mailing List, not only solved a problem that had plagued computer scientists for years, but the invention also redefined how people look at money. Furthermore, as a side effect, Satoshi’s creation spawned a new digital economy with more than 13,000 cryptocurrency assets, worth just over $1 trillion today. The Size of Bitcoin’s Distributed Ledger Nears a Half Terabyte

Well over a decade ago, on January 3, 2009, the size of the Bitcoin blockchain was 0.285 kilobytes (kB) or around 285 bytes. Today, however, the blockchain’s ledger is nearly half a terabyte, or roughly 432 gigabytes. Bitcoin’s Blockchain Nears 500 Gigabytes in Size On October 15, 2022, the Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain is getting closer to reaching 500 gigabytes, or roughly half a terabyte of space, in order to store the entire distributed ledger’s history on a drive. At the time of writing, storing the entire BTC blockchain requires more than 432,000 megabytes (MB) or 432 gigabytes (GB) of space. Close to 14 years ago on January 3, 2009, the blockchain was less than a kilobyte in size or approximately 285 bytes, the day Satoshi Nakamoto launched the network. Bitcoin Miner Cleanspark Completes Sandersville Facility Acquisition, Firm's Hashrate Now 4.7 Exahash

On October 11, the publicly-listed bitcoin miner Cleanspark announced that it has completed the acquisition of Mawson Infrastructure Group’s Georgia-based bitcoin mining facility. Following the acquisition, Cleanspark says it now manages 220 megawatts (MW) of bitcoin miners with a hashrate of over 4.7 exahash per second (EH/s). Cleanspark Hashrate Moves Closer to 5 Exahash, Firm Obtains 6,500 Mining Rigs From the Facility Acquisition Cleanspark (Nasdaq: CLSK) revealed on Tuesday that the mining firm has finished the acquisition of Mawson’s Georgia-based bitcoin mining facility located in Sandersville. The acquisition, Cleanspark says, included 6, 500 mining rigs or roughly 560 petahash per second (PH/s) of hashpower. According to Cleanspark, the Sandersville site is the publicly-listed bitcoin miner’s fourth facility in Georgia.
